Lung Cancer Screenings at MANA

Lung cancer prevalence

Lung cancer causes more deaths in the United States each year than any other type of cancer. This is true for men and women alike. Last year, lung cancer was responsible for 27% of all cancer deaths in the U.S. But it’s not just an American problem. Lung cancer is the most common type of cancer worldwide, and was responsible for 1.6 million deaths in 2012.

The American Cancer Society estimates that there will be 224,390 new lung cancer cases in the U.S. this year and approximately 158,080 deaths caused by lung cancer.

Despite being one of the most common types of cancer, it is also one of the most preventable forms of cancer. Although it’s possible to develop lung cancer without smoking, it is rare. It’s estimated that smoking is responsible for up to 90 percent of all lung cancer cases.

The earlier you detect lung cancer, the greater the odds of overcoming it. Lung cancer, however, has no symptoms in its early stages. It’s possible to have lung cancer without even knowing that you have it. Lung cancer is typically diagnosed after people are exhibiting symptoms, which is why lung cancer claims more lives than any other type of cancer.

Is it time to schedule a lung cancer screening?

It’s important to find cancer as early as possible. Active smokers and those with a history of smoking are at a much higher risk than non-smokers, and should seriously consider a lung cancer screening.

MANA Imaging is the only American College of Radiology Accredited Lung Cancer Screening Center in the state of Arkansas. Certain high-risk individuals are eligible for a free lung cancer screening from MANA Imaging.

If you are over 50, and have a smoking history of 20 pack-years, or if you are over 55 and have a smoking history of 30 pack-years, you could be eligible for a free lung cancer screening. Those who have never had a history of lung cancer are also eligible for a free screening from MANA Imaging.
